Director, Brad Bird, of Paramount Pictures “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” talks about the making of the movie in a special IMAX Featurette below.

Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Bird met with Paramount about shooting 25 minutes of the film in IMAX. He stated it is slightly less than the Dark Knight. Bird stated that while watching snipets of the film “people are getting vertigo because the screens are too big they actually feel they are going to tumble into them…the more you can make it like a dream, and like reality that’s what you’re going for.” Bird stated that he wanted to sweep people away. “I wanted people to see this at it’s best,” said Bird.

Audiences are in for an exclusive treat, “Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol” will be ppening in IMAX five days before it opens wide! Bird stated, “all the first people to see this film will see it at its best.”

This weekend’s Syfy original film, “Age of the Dragons” has iconic film star Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon, The Color Purple) seeking revenge on a killer Great White Dragon. A story that is based on classic tale “Moby Dick”.

In a press conference phone call this week, we talked to Danny Glover about the film. He plays the heroic matriarch, Captain Ahab who turns his focus onto catching and killing the White Dragon who killed his family. With the help of his crew and adoptive daughter he faces the dragon first-hand and must battle to win.

Our tech reporter asked Glover how modern special effects in film making has affected him as an actor. Glover stated that special effects seems to “warp the role of an actor and warp the film itself”. However, Glover stated that “they’re so amazing. Some of the things we did in the first Lethal Weapon film 25 years ago and the way they are done now, it’s like done in another age and time”. In his opinion regarding the expansion in film technology, Glover said, “the format – it’s just an amazing development that brings the audience closer [by using] special effects to feeling it in a different kind of way.”

As an actor Glover stated that “those things (special effects) don’t affect me because I love the nuance of language. I’m always dealing with the relationship that language has to what we are trying to convey. Whatever the Lethal Weapon movies were, it was the relationship between two men and the people they came in contact with. Special effects can’t hide that or can’t create that”.

One good thing that Glover stated that special effects does as in such movies he named – Transformers, Iron Man, Spider Man is that they help create physical danger. “It’s the actor’s role to find the emotional danger within that. The emotional danger is what connects people to the story itself and themselves”.

AVATAR Producer/Director, James Cameron took flight aboard the “Zero-G” experience on Saturday, October 9th to raise funds for the X PRIZE Foundation. 

The flight consisted of 30 other people who are also passionate about the science and technology represented in Avatar and mission and  innovation of the X PRIZE Foundation.  Three spots were reserved for the winners on an eBay online auction where bidders vied for their own seat.  An additional 20 seats were sold for $15,000 each.  The weightless experience took place aboard G-FORCE ONE, a specially modified, FAA-approved, Boeing 727-200 aircraft which departed from an airport in Van Nuys, Ca.  The flight, identical to those used by NASA to train its astronauts, provided guests the chance to fly like Superman and flip like gymnasts.  ZERO-G creates Martian (1/3-gravity), Lunar (1/6-gravity) and zero gravity conditions over the course of 15 parabolic arcs.

It’s been almost nine months since the Blu-Ray Association officially unveiled the Blu-Ray 3D specifications, just prior to the 3D crazed Consumer Electronics Show in January. Yet, in the same time it takes to create and grow a human infant, studios will have managed to release a mere three movies on Blu-Ray 3D discs.

That’s right. You could lop two digits off in a woodshop accident and STILL be able to count on one hand the number of Blu-Ray 3D movies released to date.

Even worse, of the three titles available today, only two of them are actually available in general release. “Monsters vs. Aliens,” the first Blu-Ray 3D movie, has been exclusively locked away in Samsung’s $349 starter kit. “Monsters vs. Aliens” will finally get a general 3D release, but only because Samsung has decided to swap it out for this year’s “How To Train Your Dragon” and all four “Shrek” films. That’s right, if you’re hoping to enjoy “How To Train Your Dragon” in 3D, you’ll need to find it on the used market or pony up for some Samsung hardware.
